#60 Food, Fun and Frugality

1. I watched 6 of Clara's little food videos:
Pasta with Peas
Egg drop Soup
Poorman's Meal
Poorman's Feast
Sicilian Fig Cookies Part I
Sicilian Fig Cookies Part II
My Mother has an old recipe called Poormans Steak. I make it a couple times a year. You take hamburger, onion, etc.....pour mushroom soup over the hamburger and bake it . We like this meal, it is cheap, and it makes enough so we can have a second meal from it.

2. Making household cleaners, like shampoo and floor cleaners.
Go and checkout library books instead of buying books. ( I love this one)
If you are a senior citizen, always ask about special discount rates.
Wash your clothing in cold water, line dry if you can.
Tires, keep them properly inflated.

3. Forming a buying co-op with friends.
We do this now with some friends. Go to Sam's,
get toilet paper, paper towels, etc., divide all the stuff up, share the cost.
Use bus lines. Again, when I am going downtown, I will use the bus.
Turn off lights. Keep all lights off during the day and at night light only the rooms being used.
Buy used at consignment stores or online at Craiglist, etc..
When we go see a movie, we do it during the week, in the morning. It is cheaper at this time.

Facebook #55

1. I have a Facebook Account.

2. I have searched and have found old friends from HS and College. And cousins, a niece and nephew.

3. I have poked, superpoked, send flowers, passed a drink and more. I was surprised to see all the different applications you could use and send.

4. 10 Privacy settings every Facebook user should know is a must read. I learned alot from that reading. Facebook should have this information on the first page of its site.

A person could be on Facebook all day. I would get very bored. I still like to see and hear my family and friends. Plus Facebook is so slow. I go into Facebook one or two times a day. Stay logged into it for 10-20 minutes. I do not really have a favorite application. What I discovered was how many applications there are, over 10 pages. Who has time to do it all?? Who would want to do it all? All for now.

Money & Fincance #59

1. I read the article and took the credit score quiz. I got an 80% on the quiz. Not bad, not good. I missed the Fair Isaac and Co., the company who develped the score system and one more.( I can not remember the second one I missed) The 2 parts most interesting to me was the Credit Score Breakdown and Improving Your Score.
How they use all the information in the credit history, how they break it down to percents was very interesting. 10% on new credit and 15% on the length of time you've had credit are new to me. And I did not know that keeping old credit accounts open, even if you are not using them, was good for Improving your Score.

2. Do we have a budget? Well, yes we do, a very loose budget. We do not write everything down that we purchase. But we know we can not go out everyday to the mall and go crazy. We know what bills to pay when and how much goes into the saving accounts. I had a budget when I was in college. Not a extra penny to my name. It was very hard. Seeing some kids go out shopping and you know you can't do any extra shopping that week. Not any fun.

3. I have never looked at the TCDRS site. Soooo everything on the site was new to me. I would be able to look at my personal account, find forms and publications on retiring. And in the Resources link, I could send days looking at all the different links to help me out with retirement. I did not setup an account for now. Maybe in a couple of year from now.

Money & Finance #58

1. My bank does offer free online banking but we are not signed up for it. I am hoping in the near future we will do this. Some of the online services are, financial calculators, secure banking forms and links to other areas of interest. A person can view checking and savings accounts, tranfers, pay bills and see alerts on your accounts. Security is very important. Prior to being logged in, I might be required to anwser 1 of 3 security questions I have previously chosen. I may use a virtual security device to enter my password after submitting my login ID as normal.

2. I looked at Wesbae and Foonance. Wesbae would be the one I would use. I watched and listen to the 3 minute video. The Wesbas Group looked like a interesting way to learn what the general opinion is on different subjects. At this time, I do not see us using this.

3. We already do a few of the things listed to reduce cost like purchase store brands, we use generic drugs and we have a multipolicy discount for insurane on our home and auto. I would like to get some of the florescent bulbs for our home, but I have heard that they need to be recycled after they burn out. I would have to find a place to do this. We have always check Consumer Report for big ticket items. I have never gone onto the internet to check for prices. I will have to do this next time we are buying something.
